How to Make a Scratching Pole for a Cat

If your cats is always scratching on your furniture and climbing on your curtains then you need to do something. Do not take drastic measures such as declawing it or getting rid of it because there is a solution. The simplest solution is making a scratching post on which it can scratch with no problem. If you learn how to make a scratching post then you will save a lot of money on repairing your furniture. It is not so hard to make a scratching post you just have to follow our next instructions.

Take a piece of wood and cut the base so as to be able to make it stand on its own. The dimensions of the wood should be: one inch thick and 10 inches by 10 inches. The next step is to cut the pieces which will be placed in the center of the pole. Next you will need two pieces of wood of 18 inches in length.

The next thing that you should do is cover the base of the post with carpet of 12 inches by 22 inches. What you should do is wrap the board all around but before you do that cover the board with glue just to make sure that the carpet stays in place. Cover the sides of the board with carpet and then staple it all every two inches just to make sure that everything stays where it should.

Another step is painting the four pieces of 18 inches with glue and then wrap carpet of 16 inches by 18 inches made of remnaton the pole except the bottom and the top. Just to secure everything nail the all the pieces to the center pole using strong nails. After all this place the pole on a flat surface and sprinkle some catnip just to make it more attractive for the cat. Make sure that everything is in place because once the cat starts using it you will not be able to make modifications. Consider adding a toy to the pole just to make it more interesting and fun for your pet.

All you have to do is follow these instructions and in no time you will have a scratching pole for your loving pet. You will save a lot of money and at the same time you will make your cat happy.
